Depending on the duration of your course, you can stay in Australia where 40 hours per fortnight are given for work. The point here to keep in mind is that you can only work when the session has started and not before that.

Furthermore, if you wish to change your course to a higher level, you can do it anytime. But switching down to lower-level course will demand a new visa application on the Australian Qualification Framework.
